As músicas do primeiro álbum de estúdio da banda 'Avenged Sevenfold' é um Hardcore bem cru, eu diria. A voz do Matt Shadows é bem parecida com a voz do Melodic Death Metal, e tem outras partes onde ele canta com a voz limpa. Essa mudança é característico do Metalcore. Eu particularmente gosto dessa gritaria, ela dá mais força à música principalmente junto aos instrumentos totalmente pesados. Não me estranha agora porque mais tarde ele precisa fazer uma cirurgia de cordas vocais. Eles também fazem umas harmonias vocais bem interessantes, por exemplo, quando o Matt Shadows está gritando e tem outra voz dizendo a mesma coisa porém com uma voz limpa.
